Arc|Com is dedicated to the development of environmentally sound products and manufacturing practices. They use materials that are safe and manufacturing processes that reduce pollution, waste, energy and water usage. As part of their" Green Initiative", Arc|Com offers eco-tex sustainable textiles woven from a variety of materials that are designed to reduce our environmental footprint. Manufactured in increasingly sustainable environments, these products meet the criteria necessary for the markets they serve. Eco-tex products may also represent sustainable innovations developed to serve specific performance criteria. Sustainability is a primary focus and goal in our textile development. The materials and resources used by the Design Studio are continually researched and evaluated according to enlightened guidelines and standards.
Manufacturing Terminology
Furniture painting and finishing processes have traditionally produced hazardous chemical byproducts collectively called Volatile Organic Compounds or VOC's. Zoom Seating has reduced their VOC emissions 94%. Using new, epoxy paints that are VOC-free and apply them electrostatically. With electrostatic application, the parts being painted are electrically charged, drawing the paint particles to the part rather than over spraying them into the air. These efforts have limited emissions to levels below, and in most cases far below, current strict federal and state regulations.

An alternative to granite is Vetrazzo. Vetrazzo is 85% glass, and all the glass we use is recycled - so it really is good for the environment.
Unlike Granite that with the increased popularity in kitchens, there have been reports that some of these natural stones emit radon - a radioactive gas that can seep into the air but can be eliminated by ventilation - as well as radiation, which cannot. Both elements can cause cancer, and the U.S. Surgeon General has warned that "indoor radon" is the second-leading cause of lung cancer, after smoking.
Isn't that Food for thought?

Check out the latest invention for undulating, creative, reception seating. It is the "Molecule" from Davide Tonizzo,
Molecule’s unique assembly, connects individual structures to one another using a “soft-linking” system;replacing the need for a hard connection. The simple and rapid assembly of Molecule adds an original twist to conventional seating layouts. Molecule consists of two components: a cylindrical upholstered seat and a curved backrest finished in wood veneer with upholstered top pad. The two components of Molecule combine into an endless array of configurations and are designed to simply reconfigure on the fly to respond to changing needs. An optional plywood work surface is also available
Get involved in your local community and be eco-friendly. Omaha has a Green Coalition that connects local commity organizations with educators and the community. I am looking forward to a local tour of Green Friendly homes in September.
